Both #103-1 and #103-2 knives feature Cholla Cactus handles. Cholla Cactus is a product found in abundance here in Southeastern New Mexico. We treat the Cholla as we would any of the wood products, it is stabilized and dried. The Cholla is then cast in a polymer to fill the natural holes to ensure a product that will last for generations. The blade is

This #103-2 resembles the knife shown in #103-1. The difference you can see is reflected in the amount of Cholla Cactus which shows in the handle and the filled holes in the cactus are much smaller. The blade of this particular knife is constructed from a hoof rasp originally
used by a farmer to trim horse’s hooves. The finer/finishing side of the rasp
yields its unique pattern. Rasps are an extremely rugged source of high carbon

The picture reflects one of our larger
knife styles. We refer to it as the “Big Chopper” after a client’s son gave it that “handle.” Both examples pictured are again made from Rasps used to trim horse’s hooves. Grinding the teeth off the rough side of the rasp yields the unique triangular design. The top Rasp knife reflects the following types of wood: African Ebony, Locust, and Purple Heart.

This larger framed model reflects a straight spine and clipped point blade. The blade features a milled “Fuller/Blood Groove” on a stainless-steel blade. An African Ebony handle with a white handle spacer offers great contrast to the blade. Spacer material looks great on many handles and is available on any knife upon request.

This Hoof Rasp model show us a narrow ¾” wide blade with a comfortable smooth contoured handle. The front portion of the handle is Osage Orange (Bodark) wood while the rear portion is Padauk from South America. Many our woods used for knife handles originates in Africa or South America, both continents yield super durable woods due to their high oil content.
